R Kelly owes the IRS almost $2 Million and he said he couldn’t even flee if he wanted to.
R Kelly’s attorney Steven Greenburg says an inmate that was housed on R Kelly’s floor was hospitalized for Covid 19. He wants to be discharged from jail in fear he might catch the illness that has caused a pandemic. His lawyers are arguing that R Kelly is not a flight risk because he can’t afford to go anywhere. This is his second request to get out of jail and avoid catching Covid 19.
Prosecutors argue he has enough money to flee because he already made over $200,000 in royalties just this year alone while in jail. His lawyers argue this money will be eaten by agents and others taking their cuts besides he owes the IRS almost $2 million and he doesn’t really have access to it anyway.
R Kelly’s lawyers also brought up the fact that their client absolutely had the means to flee while the Feds built a case against him but did not flee and never missed a court date.
R Kelly says he is apart of the venerable group to contact Covid 19 behind bars. His lawyers also say causes are doubling behind bars for inmates and staff and they are very concerned.
The judge already shut down the first request. Let’s see what happens this time.
